About the nominations process

Every GC Powerlist is compiled through an independent editorial process led by Legal 500. It aims to recognise the most senior in-house legal leaders across each jurisdiction. Research is conducted over several months and draws on editorial assessment, market feedback, and third-party nominations, including submissions from law firms and professional services firms.

All nominations are assessed on merit, with consideration given to seniority, influence, and demonstrable impact within the relevant market. This includes review of career achievements, publications, speaking engagements, and involvement in key legal and regulatory developments.

While external nominations form part of the research process, they are not determinative of inclusion. All candidates are assessed against the same editorial standards, regardless of source.

Final selection is made solely by the Legal 500 editorial team and reflects its assessment of where legal leadership and influence currently sit within each jurisdiction. The aim is to produce lists that are representative of the jurisdiction covered, while reflecting diversity across industries, roles, and professional backgrounds.

Who can I nominate?

The GC Powerlist recognises the most senior in-house legal leaders within the host jurisdiction. This includes General Counsel, Chief Legal Officers and Heads of Legal, lawyers with primary responsibility for legal strategy and delivery within the jurisdiction and also regional or global legal leaders where there is a clear and substantive local remit.

Am I eligible to nominate?

We invite law firm partners and in-house counsel to nominate in-house lawyers that have been instrumental in driving their businesses forward, particularly those who have done so in an innovative way.
